ReefBox: The World’s First Subscription Box for Divers

Our inner geek, always fiending for new scuba gear, squealed with delight after recently stumbling on ReefBox, the world’s first subscription box geared for divers.

What’s in the box?

Subscription boxes have popped up for all sorts of interests, from cooking to high-end organic dog treats. These recurring delivery boxes are jam-packed with niche products and in the case of ReefBox, it’s all about scuba. The company curates a surprise assortment of fun dive and travel accessories, scuba-safety gear, dive apparel, and cutting-edge scuba gadgets, delivered directly to you or a lucky buddy. While the package contains standard items that every diver uses, ReefBox also likes to incorporate cool, new products. Two recent inclusions were high-performance anti-fog for masks which uses nanocellulose (the world’s hottest new biomaterial made by algae) and a glow-in-the-dark dive slate. In addition to scuba gear, they add a variety of extras to each subscription box:

  • A monthly “Dive Find,” highlighting a world-class dive location and offering tips about diving in that area. You’ll also get a discount to a specific resort. Recent Dive Finds have featured the Caymans, Fiji, and Utila.
  • A monthly “Reef Brief” which contains an update from a conservation partner about a marine project and showcases how divers can become involved.
  • At least one additional discount, which often offers exclusive savings from a manufacturer featured in the ReefBox. Recently, this included 20 percent off award-winning Gear Aid products.

How did ReefBox get started?

A divemaster himself, the owner of ReefBox, Rusty Walters, only adds in items to the subscription box that he’d personally want in his own kit. He also stands behind his company motto to “deliver high-quality dive supplies and accessories to keep divers excited about the sport while contributing to the conservation efforts of our world’s coral reefs.” To that end, ReefBox utilizes biodegradable boxes made from 100 percent post-consumer recycled materials printed with eco-friendly ink. In addition, the company donates a portion of its proceeds to the Coral Reef Alliance, which restores and protects coral reefs in partnership with the communities living nearest the reefs.

How do you get a ReefBox?

ReefBox offers a month-to-month subscription, as well as subscriptions for three, six, or 12 months. Depending on the subscription you choose, you’ll pay between $36.95 and $39.95 per month. With a product-value guaranteed at $60, plus all those extras detailed above, this is not only a good deal, but a wonderful treat you or your buddy can look forward to every month.

ReefBox offers a guarantee and will not only swap out any product you’re unhappy with, but also lists the email address of the owner so you can discuss any concerns with him personally. And, for the next 30 days, Scuba Diver Life readers can snag a discount good for 15 percent off of a ReefBox subscription of any length using the “SDL15” promo code. (New subscribers only.)
