A blogger, I’m supposed to swan around, led by my heart, throwing my rent money at “must haves” (or I’m not supposed to acknowledge that rent money is a thing I think about) but the truth is I am a very sensible thirty two year old woman. I love to own beautiful things, but I also hope to buy a house someday.
I think that a lot of you are like me: you love beautiful jewelry but you like to make smart choices.
The jewelry we’re looking at today is absolutely gorgeous – beautiful, versatile, and uplifting – but it’s also incredibly practical. When I saw the Platinum Born collection in person, I found myself saying “wow, this is so smart!” over and over again. Sounds weird, but it’s true.
Allow me to explain.

I’m going to start by making a huge deal about a characteristic of these pieces that’s nearly impossible to capture in photos: the sparkle. It’s incredible. Every time I touched one of the Platinum Born pieces, I was dazzled by showers of light. And here’s why that’s so noteworthy: the bewitching glitter of these pieces is achieved without the use of one single gemstone. It’s all about how the platinum is cut.
As you can imagine, the lack of gemstones does wonders for Platinum Born’s price range. The collection starts at just $500.
The Platinum Born line is mostly necklaces for now, although they will be adding more earrings and a few bracelets. Everything is platinum and everything is gorgeous.
Some of the necklaces are long enough to wear doubled or draped, depending on your outfit. They’re all simple but beautifully detailed; they’ll go with literally anything. Who doesn’t want a good necklace they can wear with everything forever?

This mysterious loopy thing is one of my very favorite pieces in the Platinum Born collection. What is it, you ask? Anything you want it to be.
This little platinum superstar is completely flexible AND magnetic. That means you can wear it in multiple configurations: a choker, a long asymmetrical necklace, a bracelet, even a headband (I love it as a headband). It’s strong enough to hold up a pendant if you wear it short, and because it’s gorgeously cut platinum, it sparkles like it’s sprinkled with diamonds even though it’s all metal.
Absurdly cool. There are very few pieces out there that are this versatile, especially with no fiddly mechanisms necessary.

Of course, I’m a little biased here: you know my own wedding stack is alllllll platinum: both my 100 year old Art Deco engagement ring and my two contemporary wedding bands are platinum. Platinum became the precious metal of choice in the 19th and 20th centuries, especially after the invention of the oxyacetylene torch in 1903 allowed the metal to be worked as never before. (Source.) The use of platinum in fine jewelry declined around World War II, when the metal was reserved for use in the war effort. Today, it’s a staple in the finest of jewelry houses – a beloved metal of Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Faberge, Tiffany & Co, Buccelati and more.
