Platinum Born: the strength you deserve.

A blogger, I’m supposed to swan around, led by my heart, throwing my rent money at “must haves” (or I’m not supposed to acknowledge that rent money is a thing I think about) but the truth is I am a very sensible thirty two year old woman. I love to own beautiful things, but I also hope to buy a house someday.

I think that a lot of you are like me: you love beautiful jewelry but you like to make smart choices.

The jewelry we’re looking at today is absolutely gorgeous – beautiful, versatile, and uplifting – but it’s also incredibly practical. When I saw the Platinum Born collection in person, I found myself saying “wow, this is so smart!” over and over again. Sounds weird, but it’s true.

Allow me to explain.

Platinum Born: the strength you deserve.

This necklace looks like diamond lace, but it's woven platinum! From the Platinum Born collection. The exquisitely designed Platinum Born line has one goal: to elevate the everyday by offering real women the opportunity to treat themselves to the quality they truly deserve.

When you combine cutting edge technology with one of the Earth’s rarest metals, you can achieve incredible results. Every piece of Platinum Born jewelry is expertly engineered to be its best self; flexible, featherlight, ultra strong, and shimmering with a constant, glimmering flicker.

Platinum Born is offered in a handful of exclusive jewelry stores around the US, and I’m lucky that one of them is right here in my neighborhood. I skipped on over to Charles Schwartz’s gorgeous new Chevy Chase location last week (in Mazza Gallerie, for those of you who know the DC area) to see Platinum Born for myself.

All decked out in beautiful jewels from the Platinum Born collection!I’m going to start by making a huge deal about a characteristic of these pieces that’s nearly impossible to capture in photos: the sparkle. It’s incredible. Every time I touched one of the Platinum Born pieces, I was dazzled by showers of light. And here’s why that’s so noteworthy: the bewitching glitter of these pieces is achieved without the use of one single gemstone. It’s all about how the platinum is cut.

As you can imagine, the lack of gemstones does wonders for Platinum Born’s price range. The collection starts at just $500.

The Platinum Born line is mostly necklaces for now, although they will be adding more earrings and a few bracelets. Everything is platinum and everything is gorgeous.

Some of the necklaces are long enough to wear doubled or draped, depending on your outfit. They’re all simple but beautifully detailed; they’ll go with literally anything. Who doesn’t want a good necklace they can wear with everything forever?

A few of the necklaces can be worn in different ways to provide different looks (see one of those on Priyanka Chopra here). Several of the necklaces can also be worn as bracelets or used as the chain for a beloved pendant…and one of them is a straight up magical platinum transformer.

This strange silver circle is a completely flexible, magnetic necklace that can be worn in an infinite number of ways! From Platinum Born. This mysterious loopy thing is one of my very favorite pieces in the Platinum Born collection. What is it, you ask? Anything you want it to be.

This little platinum superstar is completely flexible AND magnetic. That means you can wear it in multiple configurations: a choker, a long asymmetrical necklace, a bracelet, even a headband (I love it as a headband). It’s strong enough to hold up a pendant if you wear it short, and because it’s gorgeously cut platinum, it sparkles like it’s sprinkled with diamonds even though it’s all metal.

This Platinum Born necklace is all platinum, fully flexible, and fully magnetic - it can be worn in so many different ways!Absurdly cool. There are very few pieces out there that are this versatile, especially with no fiddly mechanisms necessary.

Platinum is much stronger than gold and thirty times more rare. It’s naturally white, unlike white gold (which is yellow gold mixed with white metals) and it won’t tarnish like silver. Platinum just becomes lovelier as it ages, developing a rich sheen called a “patina.”

Of course, I’m a little biased here: you know my own wedding stack is alllllll platinum: both my 100 year old Art Deco engagement ring and my two contemporary wedding bands are platinum. Platinum became the precious metal of choice in the 19th and 20th centuries, especially after the invention of the oxyacetylene torch in 1903 allowed the metal to be worked as never before. (Source.) That’s what made the light, lacy platinum creations of the Edwardian era possible.

The use of platinum in fine jewelry declined around World War II, when the metal was reserved for use in the war effort. Today, it’s a staple in the finest of jewelry houses – a beloved metal of Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, Faberge, Tiffany & Co, Buccelati and more.

In short: platinum the best, and that’s why you deserve to wear it.

Platinum Born celebrates strong women.Platinum Born is the perfect way for real, everyday jewelry lovers to rock the most desirable of metals. I also have to mention, even though it’s less important than the actual pieces (or is it?), that I love Platinum Born’s branding.

In a recent post, I talked about a jewelry brand that I have trouble loving because of the messages its branding sends about women. Platinum Born is just the opposite: its Instagram is filled with quotes from powerful women and photos of relatable women rocking Platinum Born, often in professional or casual attire.

It’s so refreshing to see a brand that celebrates the strength and determination of the women who wear its jewelry, instead of making everything all about appearance.

I love the design of this Platinum Born necklace!! It's cut so cleverly that it sparkles like diamonds, even though it's all metal.

If you choose to treat yourself to one of these Platinum Born pieces, you’ll wear it for the rest of your life, with a thousand different outfits on a thousand different days.

To learn more, visit the official website here, or go see the collection for yourself at a retailer near you. For my fellow DC-area folks, I recommend Charles Schwartz!
